Day Two

Day Two The sun begins to rise and cool morning comes. Early in the morning, there is a low mist coming from the forest but it isn't anything strange considering the environment. However, combined with how quiet it is. . . it does look kind of creepy. Fortunately, as the day goes on, it gets warmer and brighter. The mist dissipates and the birds begin to call out. The first few people to wake up might notice some things have moved around while they were asleep. The pots and pans that were left outside have been moved several feet away. Several bottles of water are missing from the cases and can be found scattered around the sand. The spring is calm and peaceful. It is quiet but not too quiet like it was last night. Status Weather: Sunny, clear, and very warm with a light breeze. Electronics: It is impossible to get any sort of reception on the beach. Any nation will a cell phone will wake up to find a message from the United Nations. Some nations might receive the same message more than once. It looks like someone tried to send the message multiple times to make sure it went through. Message: "do not make him angry again" Magic: Magic is not always effective today. For every five times you cast a spell, it might not work once. Otherwise, everything is normal. Animals: Normal on the beach. Any pets that go into the woods will stay close to their owners. Pets will become upset around the spring and staying around too long will result in the pets leaving for the beach. ???: Several bottles of water are missing from camp. They can be found scattered in the sand. The entrance to Tent Four was left open over night. The pans and pots have been moved. Day Two | Night Two Day 3 will go up 6 June

[ That's an affirmative, Captain. Hong Kong's just way too curious now. He shoulders his backpack and nods. ]

Yeah, we should try and hurry if we can.

[volcanoes]

[Iceland frowns at the cliff as they approach it--the closer they get the more trouble it looks to get over--but a glance back at the beach and the forest convince him this is the safest way.]

We'll have to go over it.

[bauhinia]

[ Onward and upward, that's what Hong Kong's thinking. ]

D'you climb cliffs often? [ Because he used to, but it's been awhile. ]

[volcanoes]

Sometimes I climb up my volcanoes. And Norway forces me to go hiking in the mountains sometimes.

[Not exactly cliffs, but at least he's not afraid of heights.]

Climbing volcanoes sounds kinda dangerous.

[ Just sayin'. Since he doesn't have any, this is a foreign concept to him. ]

[volcanoes]

Just wait until they're not erupting. [Shrug.] Climbing glaciers is harder.

[Life in Iceland?]

Yeah, I'd guess it'd be kinda slippery.

[ No, he's just being a smart aleck. ]

[volcanoes]

Only when it's too warm. [Is he talking about lava or melting ice...]

[Looking up at the cliff now that they're actually in front of it.]

[bauhinia]

And when's that? [ The world may never know. ]

[ He looks up as well. It's not so bad up close. He can do this, no problem. ]

[volcanoes]

It happens sometimes. What sort of things do you climb?

[Iceland is... Pretty sure he can do it. As long as he doesn't decide to have an economy-induced coughing fit partway up.]

[bauhinia]

Uh, like, stairs? [ Lots of stairs. ] I have some mountains too though, sometimes I climb those.

[ Translation: he has in the past. No word about whether this has happened recently. ]

[ Go Iceland. Never give up, never surrender! ]

[volcanoes]

I'll take you ice climbing sometime.

[Iceland starts up the side of the cliff. Puffin, of course, just takes off and perches on the top, watching and possibly mocking progress.]

[bauhinia]

Seriously? [ ... he thinks that's kinda cool.... ]

[ And thus, Hong Kong follows. He stops only to stare up at Puffin if he has some commentary to make. Let's see him do this if he couldn't fly, yeah? Yeah. ]

[volcanoes]

[Iceland mostly ignores Puffin except to grumble a bit about how he's the emergency food supply. Working his way up the cliff isn't as difficult as it had seemed when he was at the bottom of it, but it's taking longer than he thought it would when he saw it from the beach. If it's dark when they reach the mansion again...]

[ That's just their luck. And Hong Kong suddenly has to cough for a second when Iceland mentions emergency rations. But he most definitely wasn't trying to hide the fact that he might've wanted to laugh at that. Hong Kong laughs maybe twice a year. Sometimes less. So there's no way that would've made him laugh. ]

[volcanoes]

[If that definitely wasn't a laugh then Iceland definitely has no reason to be at all pleased. Puffin, at least, waits until Iceland is safely at the top of the cliff before pecking him.]

[bauhinia]

[ Well, if Iceland has no reason to be pleased, then Hong Kong certainly doesn't. Nope. Totally stoic here. Not at all amused.

Does he escape the pecking wrath of the puffin? ]

[volcanoes]

[He does. For now. Puffin is watching him, though.

Once Iceland is at the top, he snaps a picture of the whole island on his own phone. Maybe Hong Kong is rubbing off on him.]

[ He does not want to invoke the wrath of the puffin.

Hong Kong's right behind him there, making sure to get a few good shots. Oho, maybe he is. ]

Yeah, I kinda do. Well, where it ought to be, right? That mist's still kinda hanging around.

[volcanoes]

Yeah. [Iceland looks over the whole length of the island, or as much as he can make out through the mist.] It's bigger than I thought it was.

Well, it's still not that big.

[They have to climb down the other side of this cliff, don't they? Going through the forest really would have been faster, but on the other hand nothing has attempted to chase them yet going this way.]

[bauhinia]

Yeah, it's not that big. [ It sounds like he might be echoing this just to reassure himself or both of them.

Yeah, both of them. It's not like he's worried. He's way more interested in figuring out what's going on. ]

If we keep going, we could totally make it before the sun goes down.

[volcanoes]

[Iceland isn't so sure about making it before the sun goes down, but even he sometimes doesn't always voice every single pessimistic thought that pops into his head. Instead, he looks down across where they'll be walking. Looks like another beach on the other side of the cliffs.]

We can probably sleep there if it's too late to get back.

[Okay, maybe he's just sort of implying it will be really late.]

[ Sometimes Hong Kong is overly optimistic. Sometimes on purpose. His eye follow's Iceland's gaze. More beach. That's not so bad. ]

We did bring enough stuff for that, yeah?

[ Not too bad, not too bad. ] So, let's get going. [ Climbing down is somehow trickier than going up, but he won't say so. ]

[volcanoes]

Yeah...

[Iceland makes his way down cautiously, though he does occasionally check where the sun is. Faster through the forest, but nothing has tried to eat them yet. Of course, if something were to attack them while they were climbing...

No, that's stupid.]

[ That is definitely morbid. It's official, Iceland reads/watches too much horror. Hong Kong isn't even thinking about that.

Well, okay, mostly because he's started mentally going through everything that the Thing That Licked Him could be. He doesn't remember any stories like that.

Maybe it was just a dog or something.

A dog that couldn't decide whether or not it wanted to be friendly.

A super fast dog that just materialized into thin air.

Right. ]

So, how d'you think we ended up out here? [ This may seem dumb, but he has a point to asking, really. ]
