Night Three

Night Three
The full moon hangs in the sky again. Everything is eerily calm and quiet at night.

Night three starts off surprisingly normal.

Prussia and Greece wil be able to find their cameras in the sand near camp.

Status
Weather: Cool with clouds coming in.

Electronics: No signals. The emergency radio is unable to catch anything. Music players will play static. Camera problems continue. Flashlights turn on and off on their own.

Magic: Barely effective. For every seven spells cast, one will work.

Animals: If you still have your pet, they will refuse to leave camp. Mr. Puffin still has not returned.

You totally shouldn't have to sleep outside. You can sleep in uh, either of the tents I was in. [ He points to either of them. ]

Why are you in two tents? [Poking the fire again.]

Because China and England are in that one. [ He points helpfully. ] And that's the one I chose. [ Again, pointing helpfully. ] China dragged me over to sleep with him today. I guess he wanted to keep an eye on me.

So you wouldn't run back into the forest. [He examines the two tents and then looks at the fire.] Sleeping in a tent with England doesn't sound like much fun.

You can take my spot in the other one then. [ He says this pretty matter-of-factly. Sleeping outside is not an option, if he can help it.

He directs his attention to the food food for a minute, eyeing it critically. ]

...Okay. [He doesn't really need to try to secure a spot for Denmark since he's sure his older brother will just shove himself in wherever he wants, really.]

Is it done? [Since Hong Kong seems to be looking it over very carefully...]

Good. [ He's glad Iceland agreed. The thought of going back into one of the tents and leaving Iceland outside is really not cool. As for Denmark, well. More power to him. ]

It's almost done. Here, gimme your plate. [ He motions for Iceland to hand him the plate he set down (by Iceland's uninjured arm). ]

[Iceland hands the plate over.] Good thing you didn't learn to cook from England.

Uh, yeah. I dodged that bullet.

[ He serves up the food, making sure there's a generous helping of each item, then returns the plate to Iceland. ] This is good, promise.

[ When he's done, he plops down on the sand beside Iceland. ]

[Iceland takes a bite to test and then eats--well, like he hasn't eaten a proper meal in a while, which is true. He's as capable of shoveling away food as any actual teenager.]

It is. ...I didn't know I was this hungry.

[ That's sort of reassuring, really. Hong Kong was starting to worry. Maybe that thing was trying to zombify Iceland or something.... ]

Well, you kinda didn't eat all day, so it's pretty natural you'd be.

Yeah, I guess. [He didn't feel hungry until he started eating, but better late than never, maybe. He finishes quickly enough.]

I wonder if anyone at home has any idea what's happening to us.

[ He watches the contents of Iceland's plate, just to see if seconds are going to be an option. He gestures to the remaining food, as if asking if Iceland wants more. ]

Your phone hasn't been working again, has it?

[Iceland shakes his head--he's willing to eat, at least, but his appetite hasn't entirely returned to normal. He will end up leaning against Hong Kong again, though. Stubbornness can only keep him upright for so long when he's so tired.]

No. I can't even play music on it. What about yours?

[ Hong Kong isn't going to protest this in the least. He just sits still, staring up at the sky for a bit. ]

Nothing. I keep trying, just in case. Nothing yet though.

I don't know how I'd even start to explain this to anyone. [He pulls out his phone. Of course, it's still got no signal.] Only a couple more days here, at least.

[Though leaving without getting to the bottom of at least the thing that killed Mr. Puffin wouldn't sit right with him.]

'Stuck on haunted island. Send holy water and umbrellas.' I dunno either. [ Like he can't help but do the same, Hong Kong also gets his phone out. ] Yeah.

Two, yeah? That's not so bad.

[ Honestly, at this point, if he doesn't figure it out, he's considering coming back until he does. This is too weird and frustrating to stop. ]

[Iceland settles against Hong Kong a bit more, feeling sleep tugging at him.]

We'll be okay. We could always send England or Romania to clear out the forest. [They're supposed to be magical, right?]

[ Feel free to use him as a pillow, he's not going to complain or try to make Iceland move. ]

Yeah, we could, right? [ Except their magic isn't working, but there's no reason for Hong Kong to know this. He didn't exactly think to ask England. ]

[Iceland will do just that for now.]

At least maybe they'll know what the ghosts are. [The idea of magic not working, for someone who spends so much time around Norway, hasn't even occured to Iceland.] Categories. I guess ghosts have those.

[ Good. Hong Kong will worry less this way. ]

Yeah, there's like, all different kinds, right? So I guess maybe some're angrier than others. [ That makes sense to him. And as a sort of skeptic when it comes to these things, magic is the last thing on his mind (or was, until it was brought up). ]

Mn. [Iceland's quiet while he considers.] I wonder how angry the ghost kid was. [Was that one of the worst things the island had to offer or was it nothing at all?]

Yeah, me too. [ He looks down, gaze inadvertently falling on Iceland's arm. Yeah, how angry in comparison to whatever else is on this island? ]

[Iceland's weight starts to settle a bit more heavily on Hong Kong as he starts to drift off.]

We'll be okay if we stay together. [He means everyone. Probably.]

Yeah. [ His voice sounds a little distant when he says that. Just a bit. ] We'll definitely stick together, okay?
