Night Three

Night Three The full moon hangs in the sky again. Everything is eerily calm and quiet at night.  Night three starts off surprisingly normal. Prussia and Greece wil be able to find their cameras in the sand near camp. Status Weather: Cool with clouds coming in. Electronics: No signals. The emergency radio is unable to catch anything. Music players will play static. Camera problems continue. Flashlights turn on and off on their own. Magic: Barely effective. For every seven spells cast, one will work. Animals: If you still have your pet, they will refuse to leave camp. Mr. Puffin still has not returned. ???: ??? Day 3 | Night 3 Day 4 will go up on June 8

[In case anyone thought Iceland was exaggerating about not moving from his spot, nope. He is still sitting in the sand exactly where he was when he got back. He's watching the ocean, actually.]

[proud_and_prussian]

[Really Iceland? The whole day? Prussia's not worried about him, but the more people that are alive, the bigger the group, and the bigger the group, the safer they'll be. ]

...Hey. You might wanna come back into the tent. Shit tends to happen at night.

[volcanoes]

[Do you see the look Iceland is giving you? It is the most witheringly sarcastic face he can manage.]

I know.

[proud_and_prussian]

[He shrugs. ]

Just saying. You haven't budged from here since morning.

...where's that pet bird of yours? The one with the beak from Hell?

[volcanoes]

Shut up. [His voice, mostly furious in a smoldering sort of way not common out of Iceland, cracks partway through that short demand.]

[proud_and_prussian]

[Prussia stops short of delivering a cutting retort back when he spots Iceland's arm and the bandage. Yes, that missing chunk is disturbing.]

Something happen?

[volcanoes]

A--[He hesitates, still not sure how to really describe it.]--thing. A thing attacked me.

[Iceland looks back out at the ocean.]

[proud_and_prussian]

Hmm.

[He takes a seat near Iceland and looks at him, curious and maybe, just maybe, concerned. Pets are serious topics, after all.]

It got your puffin?

[volcanoes]

It ate. My puffin.

[Watching the waves as if that might bring said puffin back.]

It didn't have a face, just a slit for a mouth. It had really sharp teeth.

[proud_and_prussian]

[Well that explained his mood. Prussia leans back slightly with a sigh, the sound of the waves from the shoreline filling in the silence. He's never been good in emotional stuff; he should probably leave and let Iceland's brothers or friends take care of this. But still, losing a pet that way...

And the thing too. Was it the thing that had been making the snipping sounds the whole day long? Prussia's trying to imagine how it looks like, and he just ends up shivering a little.]

[volcanoes]

[Iceland is going to continue talking, at least. Lucky Prussia.]

It was a little kid, but I couldn't get away until it let go of me. Then Mr. Puffin tried to stop it and it ate him. Didn't swallow him whole. Or snap his neck first. Or anything... Like that.

[proud_and_prussian]

[That probably explains much of Iceland's strange behaviour the whole day then. His pet had died in a gory way to protect him, and whatever that thing was had bitten a chunk out of him.]

And that's why you're staring at the ocean the whole day? Cause it ain't gonna bring him back.

[volcanoes]

What should I do instead?

[bauhinia]

[ Someone's going to show up to sit down next to him. ]

Hey. Still out here?

[volcanoes]

[Iceland doesn't move his eyes from the ocean. Rather, he looks like he would consider it too much effort.]

Mmhmm. Did you sleep?

[bauhinia]

Yeah, I did. Did you? [ He feels like he knows the answer to this and it isn't good. ]

[volcanoes]

No.

[Iceland, obviously, is even shorter than usual with his responses. He really hasn't moved from this spot since he got back.]

[bauhinia]

Are you thinking about doing that sometime soon? [ His tone is ligt and as nonthreatening as possible. ]

[volcanoes]

I'll sleep when I'm tired. I'm not yet.

[It's halfway between being a lie and not being one--Iceland is exhausted, but sleep feels so far away from him that he doesn't think he's tired, exactly. It's not the same thing.]

[bauhinia]

If you're not tired now, I dunno when you're gonna be. [ He crosses his legs and leans back on his palms. ]

[volcanoes]

[Iceland looks over at Hong Kong, finally--maybe he's decided the ocean probably isn't going anywhere.]

Me neither. Did you get in trouble?

[bauhinia]

[ That's probably a good bet. When he looks over, Hong Kong lifts one hand to wave. ]

No, he was strangely nice to me. What about you?

[volcanoes]

No, he was okay about it. I guess it's a bad time to punish people.

[Considering they are apparently on a haunted island.]

[bauhinia]

Yeah, I guess it kinda would be. [ Especially Iceland... but he's not going to say anything about this aloud. ]

So, you've been watching the ocean all day.

[volcanoes]

[As if reminded that was what he was doing, Iceland turns back to said ocean.]

Yeah. [He shrugs.] I used to do that a lot when I was little.

[When he was small and scared and things were bad. Sometimes even when it was the fault of the ocean in some part. Iceland lived and died by the water that surrounded him.]
